Wednesday Afternoon Debate (14:45-16:15)
What might the FUTURE hold for childhood?
Many people
tend to drift off during Wednesday and in recognition of this the main
Conference finishes at 14:30 on Wednesday afternoon.
Those of you
who are able to stay later are invited to join a ninety minute debate
and discussion in the Congress
Suite [this is the room that the Colloquia were
held in]
This debate is
going to be focussing on the current issue facing childcare as a result of the
UK Government’s recently released response to the consultation on the childcare
review and how this may impact on childhood in England.
Fundamentally,
whatever views are held by Government and society about childhood will have a
knock on impact for the services that are offered within the childcare
workforce and that includes some playwork provision.
This debate
will be chaired by Dr Wendy Russell
The initial
contributions will be made by Adrian Voce [Policy for Play], Chris Martin
[Unite the Union], Lesli Godfrey [SkillsActive], Prof. Hugh Cunningham and Tanya
Petherick [Class of their own, Brighton]
Each
contributor will present their thoughts on the question “What are the
implications for playworkers and their abilities to support children’s play
lives with a relaxing of the childcare regulations and requirements.”
