Eniola Odebunmi
My name is Eniola Odebunmi, I am 20 years old and currently work
as a Playworker for Hackney Play Association. I work on two sites - Homerton
Grove Adventure Playground and Clapton Park Play Project. Prior to joining HPA,
I worked as a drama facilitator with ‘Immediate Theatre’ who provided many
opportunities to work with children in after- school clubs, summer projects and
projects in school. The skills I learnt in this job were transferable which
really helped me build strong relationships in my current job.
I have been working within HPA (Hackney Play Association) for almost a year, and my wisdom
and knowledge about play has grown. As a young person I attended Adventure
playground, but never truly understood the importance of a child's play or the
vitality of it being child initiated. Now working in this sector many years
later, I now value the work that playworkers do, the time invested into
children’s lives and their support to help create a safe play space. I am
driven to see children play and grow in physical and mental structure and
initiate their own play. My long term goal is to start up my own play project
to continue this successful vision and input the valuable knowledge I have
learnt into my own practice then, just as much as I do now.
