Bridget Handscomb
My name is Bridget Handscomb and I am the Play Development and
Training Manager for Hackney Play Association. I have been actively involved in
playwork since 1981 in various jobs and am still lucky enough to be able to
work with children alongside my other roles within the playwork sector.
My involvement with playwork has given me the opportunity to
work for charities, freelance, community interest companies and local
authorities. I have had many different job descriptions covering a range of
tasks from digging holes to producing a borough’s play strategy but they have
all involved working to support children’s play opportunities. In my current
post I have the chance to work on adventure playgrounds, in leisure centres
supporting inclusion, in community centres, in schools, in public spaces and streets
whilst offering educational and professional development opportunities to
playworkers.
