John Fitzpatrick
John Fitzpatrick has worked within the playwork sector for over
thirty years with children in after-school clubs, adventure playgrounds,
camping projects and mobile play projects. He started his career as a 17 year
old playworker taking a dustcart filled to the brim with arts and crafts
materials, sports gear and other bits and bobs around housing estates in the
London Borough of Camden during the summer school holidays. He worked for
Playwork London delivering a strategic contract for SkillsActive, the sector
skills council for playwork, advising regional organisations and Local
Authorities on how to meet the training and development needs of the playwork
and childcare sectors. He is currently
a part-time Childcare and Playwork Advisor for Cambridgeshire County Council,
Trainer and Assessor for Hackney Play Association and a Research Assistant for
the University of Gloucestershire and Hackney Play Association on the
‘Co-producing a Play Space’ research project.
