David Stonehouse, RN
(Child), MSc, BSc, PGCHETLS, DipGeog.
Senior Lecturer, Edge Hill University.
I am a registered Children’s Nurse and experienced in teaching
basic life support for both children and infants to student nurses and other
health and non-health related students.
Throughout my career working with children, play has always been
a major part of my practice and interest, working closely alongside Play
Specialists and other staff helping children to play often within difficult
situations. I feel privileged to have been in charge of the Foundation Degree
Playwork course at Edge Hill, and even though this course has now finished, I
still run modules on Play and Playwork within other programmes and am the main
point of contact and resource for play and playwork within the Faculty.
I have just commenced on my PHd journey with Professor Fraser
Brown at Leeds Metropolitan University examining the amount and quality of
training in play that student Children’s Nurses receive and then looking at how
staff, with a non-playwork qualification, facilitate play within the hospital
setting.
