Stuart Lester Stuart is a senior lecturer in play and playwork at the
University of Gloucestershire and an independent trainer and consultant. Key
research interests focus on the nature and value of children’s play, playful
production of time/space through everyday encounters and the conditions under
which children’s (and adults) playfulness may thrive.
Published work includes ‘Play for a Change’: ‘Play, Policy and
Practice: A review of contemporary perspectives and Children’s right to play:
an examination of the importance of play in the lives of children worldwide’
(both with Wendy Russell). He has also contributed to a number of play and
playwork publications, the most recent of which include ‘Playing in a Deleuzian
playground’; ‘Rethinking children’s participation in democratic processes: a
right to play’, ‘Utopian Visions of Childhood and Play in English Social
Policy’ (with Wendy Russell), and ‘Leopard Skin Wellies, a Top Hat and a Vacuum
Cleaner Hose: An analysis of Wales’ Play Sufficiency Assessment Duty’ (with
Wendy Russell)
