Adventure in Tools, Play and children - Jess Milne and Jake Hally-Milne

Resurrecting children building on Aventure Playgrounds using power tools, hand tools and the playworker. Creative imagination a must and courage to see risk as a bonus .Practical change of the silhouette of adventure structures. Play use of tools and practical application with children and young people. The state of (Adventure) Play - Lesli Godfrey

Do you know what Adventure play is? Do you care about it? Play England has been researching where we currently are in England. For everyone with an interest in play, this workshop will present the findings from Play England research into the existing adventure playgrounds. The research will identify the changes in adventure playground provision since 2017, when this research was last carried out and will outline reasons for the changes. Finally, we will be asking participants to articulate what adventure play means for children now post pandemic and how it can be supported in the coming months and years. Over to you...

Inspecting your adventure playground - Simon Rix, Sarah Wilson, and Rob Wheway

This session run by APIA members, makes the most of decades of experience of inspecting, building and working on adventure playgrounds, to share with you some of the most common health & safety issues, how to spot them and record them and what to do about them. As well as looking at and thinking about real life hazards common on adventure playgrounds, we will also look at a suggested, tried and tested framework for carrying out regular checks and recording your findings. Let’s ‘Keep the Adventure’ in our adventure playgrounds by making sure we know how to spot hazards and what to do when they arise in the play space.
