Play Therapy from a Playwork Perspective - Helen Simpson

I will lean on my experience as a play lead in a residential children's home for this session.  I will talk about children who have experienced trauma or Adverse Childhood Expriences (ACES) and how they benefit from play in a theraputic setting. I will also discuss some of the difficulties I have encountered balancing certain play types and the need to keep children safe. As professionals working with children it is crucial that we have an understanding of trauma and how it can effect behaviour and play.

Enlivening the Playwork Principles - Donna Eastman

When a kid picks up a wordy book, they flick through to find pictures - their instantly accessible “realness” amongst the sea of words. That’s what this session is about, aiming to make the all-important Playwork Principles accessibly real and playful, not just a sea of words. We will be using your thoughts, ideas and experiences to make these principles real, deepen understandings and to connect with them. By the end of this session, you will have converted the Playwork Principles into your own pictorial copy using your own stories and reflections on the world of play. Come along with a playful mindset. Ready to share/listen or do both with our collective playwork experiences. Artistic skills not essential, but bring your sense of humour!

TIME: 13:15-14:45 LENGTH: 1.5 hours TARGET AUDIENCE: Play

The rights and wrongs of talking to children - Meynell

I am fed up with seeing playworkers talking to children when the children have come to our settings to play. This will be a full-on rant about what I believe is the correct playwork practice which we should all follow. As part of this session, participants will be encouraged to interrupt and heckle whilst I am ranting!

TIME: 15:00-16:00 LENGTH: 1 hour TARGET AUDIENCE: Play Harder
