Debbie Bourne

We will explore the benefits and pitfalls of working with clients as equals, how to 'embrace' conflicting cultures and be true to both client and funder remits.

Debbie will share something of the different environments she delivers playwork in, creative social networking, through all ages play delivery and making consultation 'real'

Consultation with children.

Jess Milne

Is Consultation a tainted word? What and why do we do it? If play is an innate form of behaviour why are we helping plan it? Why would a playworker want to consult with the children? Is there a need?

Over the last 3 years children have been consulted in a variety of Play settings, new and old ………..What’s the difference? Made any difference? What is consultation anyway?

Does it fit in Schools? Adventure Playgrounds? Other Playsites? Does it fit with the Playwork Principles? Is it ethical?  Can it be done so that an Adventure Playground meets the needs Playworkers talk about?

Do the children need consultation? Would anything be built / created without consultation and what would that be? The very nature of a modern Adventure Playground is what?? Therefore is consultation necessary because children haven’t got a clue??

This workshop is to explore some of these issues and look at attempts at Participation and Consultation. Please do not attend if you don’t like to participate fully!
